Former Manchester City employee Craig Hookham has a reputation for sourcing tickets in the hospitality industry.
A callous scammer conned parents at a football club into buying fake tickets before stealing thousands of pounds.
From October 1, 2018, to August 29, 2020, Hookham, of Medlock Way in Whitefield, Bury, made £123,380 selling tickets to fake sport events. From October 29, 2018 to June 13, 2020, he made a further £49,450 by selling tickets to fictitious music events - bringing the total amount he made to £172,830. Mr Ross said one of Hookham’s victims was a CEO who believed the tickets were genuine as he had previously bought rugby tickets from him whilst he was at Sale Sharks. In total he paid £5,920 directly to Hookham’s personal account which was used for all but one of the fraudulent transactions.
Over one two week period in April 2019 Hookham amassed a staggering £17,000. In August 2019 he changed tact and started to advertise ‘executive box and boot room packages’ for Liverpool Football Club. The executive box packages were priced between £3,000 and £4,000 and the boot room tickets were £400 each.
Hookham continued to sell fake football tickets and the following month one victim bought 13 boot room tickets at the cost of £3,315 and an executive box for £4,500 for the final home game of the season at Anfield. The net had closed in on Hookham and on September 17 2020 he surrendered himself to the police and handed over his mobile phone and computer, at which point the full extent of his fraud unravelled.
