While Brent Sass is on a fast pace at the front of the 2022 Iditarod — arriving in White Mountain before the checkpoint had even been fully set up — he’s not on pace for a record-setting race.
In White Mountain on Monday, Sass said he’s had a good race, but that it’s not over yet.
“We stuck to our game plan and we ran our own race, and we weren’t worried about anybody else around us,” Sass told the Alaska’s News Source team. “I think we just did our own game plan and stuck to it the whole way and we were just a little bit faster than everybody else — to this point. There’s still 77 miles to go to the finish line.”“Unless something goes wrong, I don’t think so,” he said when asked if he could win the race.
