Authorities said the girl was in the man’s custody at the time of the abuse.
Jose Jimenez Gomez, 52, was convicted on two counts of forcible penetration with a foreign object on a minor and one count of felony child abuse in Monterey County Superior Court.
The Monterey County District Attorney’s Office said the girl was in Gomez’s care and custody at the time of the abuse in April 2006. Gomez assaulted her in his vehicle in an empty parking lot in Salinas, prosecutors said, before driving her to San Jose, where he sexually abused her a second time. When Gomez was confronted days later, he fled the state and was not arrested for this case until January 2023.
