The third, occurred at 2:41 a.m. Thursday morning, according to data from the United States Geological Survey.
The center of the 2.9 magnitude tremor was just under two miles northwest of Berkeley. A citizen science survey run by USGS has so far collected feedback that the earthquake was experienced mildly by residents nearby.
The first quake San Franciscans experienced, another 2.9 magnitude centered near Piedmont, occurred Sunday night. The second was felt yesterday, a 4.4 magnitude jolt near Santa Rosa. The Piedmont and Berkeley quakes both occurred along the Hayward Fault line, which runs east of the San Francisco Bay. The Santa Rosa rumble occurred along the Rodgers Creek Fault, which runs parallel to the Hayward Fault. The two overlap with one another in San Pablo Bay.
