The mayor's proposed budget would boost parks spending by $20 million, but he rejected requests for more security and better complaint responses.

San Diego plans to open a dozen new parks and other recreation venues during the fiscal year that starts July 1, including three joint-use parks on school properties.

Parks officials requested even more money that Mayor Todd Gloria declined to include in the proposed budget he unveiled last month. They asked for $3.3 million for enhanced security, $1.9 million to let residents complain about parks facilities on the city’s Get It Done! tipster app and $550,000 for an equity assessment aimed at boosting the quality of parks in low-income neighborhoods.

The $3.3 million includes $2.3 million for additional security guards and $1 million for installing security cameras and monitoring video footage.
