Dr. Sally Taylor updates the University Health Board of Managers on a current strategy to address domestic violence in Bexar County at a Tuesday night meeting. The senior vice president and chief of behvioral medicine asks the hospital board to consider an 18-month $750,000 contract for a navigation line for law enforcement.
San Antonio Police Department reported 22 family violence homicides last year compared with 30 in 2020, according to University Health. The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office reported two homicides in 2021, down from six the previous year. Law enforcement officers call the hotline with the victim so that the operator can conduct a “lethality screen,” or assess their current level of danger. Victims are then connected with an advocate for case management provided by Metro Health.
