“For a stadium that has had some phenomenal performances of athletic ability and skill, it’s kind of cool that in the shadow of it, you had people executing at the same level of excellence in humanity and service,” Cooper said. “Brian told our staff that, ‘This is what we need to do to show our students the importance of giving back to the community,’” said Don Schmidt, who retired in June 2021 as NISD’s assistant superintendent for student, family and community services after 42 years with the district.
