San Antonio FC begins defense of its playoff championship before fifth straight sellout at Toyota Field.
SAFC fans cheer the teams first goal of the year during their home opener Saturday night at Toyota Field versus the Oakland Roots.A night of celebration carried over into the San Antonio FC game against Oakland Roots at Toyota Field on Saturday night. San Antonio beat Oakland 3-1 behind two goals from new signee Lamar Batista after unveiling three new banners before the game.
“We are obviously very pleased to earn the three points,” San Antonio FC coach Alen Marcina said. “Our fans were incredibly loud and passionate and our players feed off their energy. We do have things we can work on.” “I got beyond the right center back and I just drove to goal,” Hansen said. “I was glad I could get my first goal so quickly.”
As they had in most of their games last season San Antonio built its lead despite having less possession than Oakland. Oakland had 62 percent of the possession in the first half. San Antonio had 38 percent of the possession. The Roots had three shots on target in the first half but were unable to convert any of them as all three were kept out by San Antonio goalkeeper Jordan Farr.
