Another former employee said many workers were given notice last week and USAA did not indicate why roles and departments were being eliminated.

“We make business decisions that enable us to deliver exceptional service — including responding to changing member needs as well as shifts in the marketplace,” the company said in a statement. “This includes investing more heavily in growth areas, scaling back or stopping work in others and changing the way we’re organized.”About 19,000 of USAA’s roughly 37,000 employees are based in the San Antonio area.in its mortgage group amid falling demand for home loans and refinancing.
