People have shared their memories of the Mayflower which is due to be bulldozed
The Mayflower pub sits to the side of Bootle Strand Shopping Centre, it's brown brick and pebble dash exterior frozen in time. Sadly, no more memories will be made in the Mayflower as it closed its doors for the last time earlier this year.
Planning permission for the clearance of parts of the shopping centre was granted in December last year. The demolition represents the first phase of Bootle Strand's regeneration, although a specific date for work to begin is yet to be set.Kevin Wood commented: ‘‘Boss pub in its day, drank there for years when the Strand was booming it was always full.’’
Another person compared the pub to 'the rough pub in Red Dwarf that Dave Lister band plays in' he recalls seeing a band playing in the Mayflower one night and 'enjoying it' Patrick O’Neill added: ‘’Remember the manager in the 70s had two lovely Alsatian dogs who always walked around the upstairs bar.’’
