San Diego, Orange and Los Angeles counties are all under a tropical storm watch as the storm is expected to bring rain and potential flooding.

A tropical storm watch is now in effect for certain areas of Southern California, including San Diego, Orange and Los Angeles counties.

Hurricane Hilary, which turned into a powerful Category 4 storm overnight and is swirling in the Pacific Ocean near Mexico, is carrying very strong winds of about 145 mph and is expected to approach Mexico’s Baja California Peninsula on Saturday night as a hurricane and turn into a tropical storm before reaching Southern California on Sunday, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration reports.
