Three different Rutgers players attempted passes in the first half, including wide receiver Isaiah Washington, who hauled in a lateral from Vedral and then threw across the field to Langan, who gained 27 yards on the trick play. Wake Forest got a gift on the ensuing series when Kessawn Abraham, the Scarlet Knights’ defensive MVP during the regular season, dropped a would-be interception at the goal-line. Four plays later, quarterback Sam Hartman connected with wide receiver A.T. Perry for a 29-yard touchdown pass.
Wake Forest added another field goal early in the third quarter and Rutgers missed an opportunity to cut its deficit in half.
