The Buchenwald Memorial Institute issued a statement saying it is “appalled at the news of Boris Romantschenko’s violent death in the war in Ukraine.” He also said the Kremlin is falsely claiming to be stopping a genocide in Ukraine, “abusing the term that we reserve for the greatest atrocities, disrespecting every victim of this heinous crime.”
In a speech in a private meeting at the Vatican with volunteer members of the I Was Thirsty organization, which promotes clean drinking water to poor areas of the world, the pope decried war and the money spent on weapons.
