Taking away the 'most favored nation' status is the latest move from the U.S. to try to pressure Russian President Vladimir Putin to end his assault on Ukraine.
On Friday, Russia lost its"most favored nation" status with the United States, joining only two other countries in not having the status, as the world attempts to further alienate Russia as it continues to attack Ukraine.announced the United States would take away the benefits of being a"most favored nation" from Russia, a move that opens the door to hit Russian imports with tariffs.
Russia is one of three countries to not have"most favored nation" status from the United States for trade. Russian President Vladimir Putin chairs a meeting with members of the Russian government via teleconference in Moscow on March 10.Ed Gresser, vice president and director for Trade and Global Markets at the Progressive Policy Institute, doubted the loss of status would have a significant impact on Russia.
