UH coach Kelvin Sampson took time Friday to appeal to Alabama fans to support the Cougars during Saturday's second-round game against in-state rival Auburn.BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Marcus Sasser said it will again feel like"us versus everybody" when No. 1 Houston faces No. 9 Auburn in an NCAA Tournament second-round matchup inside a venue that is about two hours away from the Tigers' official home.
Sasser estimated that 75 to 80 percent of the crowd within Legacy Arena will be filled with Auburn fans, which will force the Midwest Region's top seed to treat Saturday's contest like a road game. After Kelvin Sampson was asked a setup question that played upon the endless in-state rivalry between Alabama and Auburn fans, the UH coach embraced the spotlight and appealed to every reasonable Crimson Tide fan who plans to attend the second game Saturday.Alabama is set to face Maryland at 8:40 p.m. in the same gym, as soon as UH's second-round contest is complete.
"From what I know about Auburn-Alabama, I don't think I have to. I think I just did," Sampson said."We're playing Auburn, 6:10. Let's go. We need some help. Roll Tide. How do you say 'Roll Tide?' Roll Tide. Yeah. Well, Roll Tide, 6:10. I don't think I have to go much further than that. That's pretty good.
