The Rockies were eager to see Michael Toglia on the big-league stage. Eager to see how he handled the speed of the game and the nasty stuff he’d encounter at the plate.
“On defense, you guys can see how good he is,” general manager Bill Schmidt said. “He’s got a natural feel for first base and he can make some special plays.” Manager Bud Black calls the 24-year-old Toglia “a good student,” something that should help him adjust to major league pitching.Toglia has shown glimpses of what he can produce at the plate. On Aug. 19 vs. San Francisco at Coors Field, he slashed two triples. Since his big-league debut Aug. 30, he leads the Rockies with 11 extra-base hits . He’s done well in the clutch, hitting .357 with runners in scoring position.
