Green himself missed the Rockets’ first two games after the All-Star break due to a groin strain, and prior to that was sidelined three games with a calf bruise and was suspended for one game. But for most of Porter’s injured stretch, Green was tasked with additional responsibilities while the Rockets played point guard by committee without one of their leading scorers and most seasoned NBA players in Porter.
In 14 games played without Porter in January and February, Green averaged 22.8 points with 3.7 assists on 18.1 shots per game and 42.7 percent shooting . Against the Spurs on Sunday, Green scored a game-high 31 points. He shot 11-of-19 from the field and 4-of-8 from deep, with at least a couple of his 3-point attempts coming because of the extra attention Porter commanded with the ball in his hands.
