That's the word from Culinary Khancepts, an affiliate of Sugar Land-based Star Cinema Grill which took over the lease of the property in 2022. The company announced Thursday that the major renovation is starting on the theater at 2009 W. Gray, which has been sitting idle for two years after the previous tenant, Landmark Theatres, couldn't come to a lease renewal agreement with then-landlord Weingarten Realty.
According to a release,"the highly anticipated refresh is expected to be completed by the end of 2023."How Star Cinema Grill saved Houston's last remaining vintage theater. So what's been going on with the property?"The last year was spent working through design, city approvals, historical preservation, landlord coordination of building improvements, including a brand new roof and prepping the theater for a sprinkler system," said Omar Khan, president and CEO of River Oaks Theatre in a release.
