The Prime Minister handed out ice cream and cake at Burrs Country Park - but the reception was mixed
The sun was shining in Burrs Country Park as Rishi Sunak handed out ice cream and cake to the public and press. But despite a warm welcome from locals on his arrival, the Prime Minister was booed from afar as he left The Lamppost cafe in Bury on Friday .
Speaking to the media later on, Mr Sunak said he is 'confident' that the Conservatives can hold onto seats in the North West which they gained from Labour at the last general election. Bury North - where James Daly hosted Mr Sunak on the visit - was among them. With a majority of just 105 votes, Mr Daly secured the seat for the Tories in 2019 by the tightest margin in Britain.
Asked about Mr Logan's announcement earlier this week, Mr Sunak said: "Mark Logan had already decided not to stand as a candidate in this election previously. I'm out and about talking to people across the region today and more generally across the country and I'm having really good conversations with people about the choice at this election because the choice is increasingly clear.
The Prime Minister was then asked whether his party can hold onto seats in the north west of England that they won in 2019 this time around. He said: "I am confident because people can see the choice at this election. When you talk about Brexit, one of the things that people rightly are concerned about, when I've been talking to them today, is about migration. The choice at this election is clear.
