The preliminary harvest data suggests that it could be one, at least within a cluster of 10 counties in Southeast Texas with a one-gobbler bag limit and a special hunting season.
The results from Lavaca County in particular are quite startling. Hunters in that county, home to the cities of Hallettsville and Shiner, reported 54 birds. That’s over twice as many turkeys harvested as in Bastrop, the county with the second-most birds , and more than the other eight counties combined .Counties immediately adjacent to Lavaca showed a steep dropoff in harvest numbers in comparison. Jackson had six birds reported, Colorado had four and Wharton only one.
