Surrounded by quaint rural villages and traditional market towns, with the imposing Pendle Hill overlooking the borough, the Ribble Valley is one of the jewels in Lancashire's crown.
The work has raised concerns about the loss of trees and the impact on Martholme Viaduct and hopes for a new ‘greenway’ project on the former Great Harwood loop line. Bridge Heywood Caravan Park in Read wants retrospective change-of-use permission from Ribble Valley Borough Council for minor engineering work and landscaping to a section of railway track bed and embankment near the viaduct and the River Calder.
Most of the planning application site relates to a third phase of the development, currently grassland, north-west of phases one and two, east of Mardale Playing Fields and south of Millbeck Close, which is part of the Mardale estate. Although permission has been granted the developer will need to reach an agreement to provide funding towards extra school spaces in the area.
