This was my first time seeing the play with Jessica Thebus at the helm; she also directed the Goodman’s 2020 audio drama of “A Christmas Carol” and the return to a fully staged production in 2021. While adhering to the traditional setting of Victorian London, her storytelling style is often reminiscent of a fairy tale, with beautiful visuals that include masks, miniatures and natural elements. The work of costume designer Heidi Sue McMath and mask designer Sarah Bendix is also key here.
