Rep. Peter T. King tweeted early Friday morning, “because of one Member of Congress refusing to allow emergency action entire Congress must be called back to vote in House,” and added, “Risk of infection and risk of legislation being delayed. Disgraceful. Irresponsible.” “I am wholly rejecting the notion that I am the culpable one because I am insisting on the rules,” he said, adding, in a reference to the top House Republican, “Why aren’t you indicting Kevin McCarthy for conspiracy to circumvent the Constitution?”
To his colleagues, his political tinkering has been less productive. Massie has operated on the sidelines of the House Republican Conference and has reveled in being a lone wolf, casting votes against scores of bills that he believes exceed the federal government’s constitutional mandates.Massie has been too independent, in fact, for the House Freedom Caucus — a famously restless group of hard-right GOP mavericks.
