honored the lives of 46 transgender and non-binary people killed this year, in a speech on the House floor ahead of Transgender Day of Remembrance, which is recognized on Nov. 20.
Pressley was joined by other House members, including Democratic Reps. Marie Newman , David Cicilline , Mark Takano , Sara Jacobs and Al Green , who each gave speeches to acknowledge the issue of“The cruelty of transphobia is a threat that we must confront and root out wherever it exists,” Pressley said. “Whether in music, or on television, or in the hallowed halls of the nation’s capitol.
“In previous years, the majority of these people were Black and Latinx transgender women,” the group stated.
