Forecasters recommended securing loose objects and preparing for the possibility of power outages, as well as using caution on roads, especially in high-profile vehicles.
High winds could hit the Anchorage Bowl on Thursday afternoon as the remnants of a tropical storm blow into Southcentral Alaska.
Ideally, the low pressure system bringing the wind up through Turnagain Arm and into Anchorage will be “fairly short-lived,” said Christian Landry, a meteorologist with the agency. Forecasters say the wind should shift south-southwest later in the day but could remain gusty, in the range of 25 mph to 35 mph, from Thursday evening through Friday afternoon or evening.
