'Reimagining' of elephant exhibit underway at San Diego Zoo Safari Park
Construction is under way at San Diego Zoo Safari Park to remodel a 12.75-acre elephant exhibit in what zoo leaders say will be the largest “transformative project” in the park’s 50-year history.
“Elephant Valley could not be achieved without the incredible community, donors, members and allies who support us and make all our conservation work possible with partners around the world,” he said in a statement. African savanna elephants are classified as endangered — their numbers are under pressure from climate change, habitat loss and poaching. Wildlife Alliance officials say conservation is a top priority.about 415,000 AfricanWildlife Alliance works with groups such as Save the Elephants, The Nature Conservancy, Northern Rangelands Trust, Kenya Wildlife Service and Reteti Elephant Sanctuary in Kenya and has participated in scientific studies that increase the understanding of the species.
