The New York State Department of Labor changed its filing system in hopes of easing the burden, but restaurant workers say its still a struggle to register for unemployment (via EaterNY)

2,000 from the week before. Earlier this week, Governor Andrew Cuomo waived the seven-day waiting period to register, a measure that has surely increased the volume of claims.

This has prompted the state to change the way people register. Amid multiple reports of hospitality industry workers being unable to sign up for the payments — or reach telephone operators — the state labor department yesterday whereby claimants sign up on a day that corresponds with the first letter of their last name.Those with a last name that starts with G-N will file on Tuesdays.People who miss their filing day will submit claims on Thursday or Friday.

To that end, we are implementing a new, more efficient filing system based on the first letter of an applicant's last name. 1/
