They'll be in the skies this evening
When making their way back to an RAF base in Lincolnshire, the Red Arrows will fly through the skies of the East Midlands. They will take off on Sunday night and fly north to RAF Scampton, just north of Lincoln.
They will pass over the east of Leicestershire between 9pm and 9.10pm, according to the Military Airshows website. Their route will see the aircraft fly over Market Harborough and north over villages including Goadby, Tugby, Somerby and Waltham on the Wolds, reports Leicestershire Live. There are various flypasts the planes will be doing earlier in the day, including two flights over the Silverstone circuit in Northamptonshire for Formula One's British Grand Prix, at 2.15pm and 2.53pm, and then a flypast over Bletchley Park at about 3pm. At 6pm they're due to perform a display over Swansea, South Wales, before a break at RAF Brize Norton. They will then return north to RAF Scampton, in Lincoln, which is their home base.
This year only seven aircraft are doing the displays, although nine perform in "national flypast events". In a statement about the 2022 season, the Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team, as they are officially known, said: "This year, the Red Arrows will display with a seven-aircraft formation, rather than nine, as two of our formation pilots have moved to other roles within the RAF.
"For national flypast events, it is intended that the team will consist of all nine aircraft, with experienced RAFAT pilots completing the formation. The 2022 display will feature all of the same breath-taking flying, dynamic teamwork and world-class precision the millions watching always expect - combining crowd-favourite manoeuvres with new shapes."
