The deadline for using REAL IDs on domestic U.S. flights has been pushed back two years, to May 2025. Department of Homeland Security officials said the extension is necessary because the pandemic has made getting a REAL ID more difficult.
Travelers will now have longer to switch over to a REAL ID, delaying what many fliers have anticipated will be a major hassle.
The Department of Homeland Security announced Monday it will extend the REAL ID enforcement date by 24 months to May 7, 2025. The previous enforcement date was set to go into effect in under five months, on May 3, 2023.
