The strain on the Rangers players’ faces was clear when John Lundstram saw a strike blocked by Frankie Kent. Shankland, on the other hand, was clearly enjoying himself, even trying to catch out Butland with a strike from inside his own half that only just drifted wide at the last moment. Clement made his move at the break, replacing Dessers – who frankly needs taken out of the firing line for his own good – and introduced Danilo. That the equally abject Sam Lammers kept his place for the second half only goes to show how few options are available to the Belgian.
