Preparing to break the fast at sundown is a family effort, and with busy homes and working parents, there is plenty of meal planning ahead of time. For her, the desire to fast was natural — she was about nine or 10 years old when she fasted for the first time.On the outside, fasting may appear challenging, but she says there’s an internal sense of calm, so feelings of hunger and thirst don’t have an effect.
Rayan Alhendawi, 16, is her eldest child and helps translate some of the questions posed by the newspaper.
