If there is one collection to see during Paris Fashion Week, let it be Irish designer Róisín Pierce’s.
Róisín Pierce has spent the past 12 months working on her autumn/winter 2024 collection and she would like to keep at least some of its motivations private. “I think it makes sense to hold a little something back when there is already so much of me in the collection,” she says, dialling in from a Belle Époque drawing room at the Embassy of Ireland in Paris’s 16th arrondissement. “To not reveal more than is necessary.
This afternoon’s collection – Oh Lovely One, Girl That Fell From A Star – is an act of divine imagination: born from an original poem that Pierce had written with Michelle Freya, which draws inspiration from the Irish poet Dora Sigerson Shorter’s elegy on Padraig Pearse, who was executed at the hands of the British army during the 1916 Easter Rising. Shorter’s poem – The Star – envisions Pearse’s moment of death and the sublime lightforce that guides him towards heaven.
