In Captain America #2, the Star-Spangled Avenger gets a brand new role in the Marvel Universe, one that gives him powers he never knew he had.
Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT One of the pillars of the Marvel Universe, Captain America has been an inspiration for both his fellow heroes and the citizens he has sworn to protect. Now, Marvel has revealed there may be more to Cap’s inspirational nature than fans thought. In Captain America #2, fans learn the Star-Spangled Avenger has an even larger role to play in the grand scheme.
Captain America #2 is written by J. Michael Straczynski and drawn by Jesus Saiz. In the present day, Travis Lane, working with the demon Asmoday, visits Henry Cavanaugh, AKA Canasta, seeking his help with eliminating a certain type of person identified as a “change agent.” These change agents emerge at critical moments in history, bringing hope to the masses. Some previous change agents include Martin Luther King Jr, Nelson Mandela and the Buddha, among others.
Captain America's Goodness Has Made Him a Target Since his first appearance in the dark days leading up to the Second World War, Captain America has been a symbol of hope, and Straczynski and Saiz are tapping into this in their new run. Captain America has bought the building he spent his childhood in, helping to keep its elderly and low income residents from being evicted.
Captain America's New Role Acknowledges What Makes Him Great Being a change agent weaponizes Captain America’s inspirational nature. All the change agents Asmoday listed have altered the course of human history. They have been paragons of intelligence and virtue and people who have inspired others to take up the fight. The people Asmoday listed fit this mold, including Captain America.
