The owner wasn't able to get insurance against flooding
Waterfront pub the Swan & Salmon has been hit by flooding causing thousands of pounds worth of damage. A number of pubs, restaurants and cafes across Nottinghamshire were forced to close at the weekend due to the havoc wreaked by Storm Babet.
Owner Tony Hall said: "There's about 18 inches of water. I can't get rid of the water. I phoned the fire brigade and they said don't pump it out because I'd be doing it for four or five days and as I'd be pumping out, the water would be coming in. It would cause circulation underground and it would affect my foundations."So I've taken their advice and just let it go. Once it starts to recede I can get a pump out then.
With no insurance company willing to provide cover for the riverside pub, any repairs will have to come out of his own pocket. "I have no idea how much it will cost to put right. We took it over during Covid and had to battle through that. You feel like the world's against you," he said.
