Provo has a new acting chief of police following the apparent sudden resignation of police chief Fred Ross on Sunday after less than a year on the job.
Former police chief Fred Ross said the move was in his “best interest personally and professionally.”
Ross didn’t cite specific reasons for his resignation, which was effective immediately, other than saying that the job had “been determined to not be sustainable.” He was appointed to the role in November 2021. “Provo is the community I grew up in and where I’ve chosen to serve professionally,” Beebe said in a statement. “We will move forward doing what we do best: community policing and crime prevention.”
