Provo Canyon has reopened after crews clear avalanche from US-189 quicker than expected
The road was closed Friday afternoon with the Utah Highway Patrol initially saying the closure was expected to remain in place for 1-2 hours, then 5-6 hours, so that crews could clear the road. Then around 4:40 p.m., the Utah Department of Transportation gave an update that the shutdown will remain in place for at least 24 hours.
However, UDOT announced at 6 a.m. Saturday that the clean-up had been completed early and that the road was open. The US-189 closure is the second of the week as the canyon was also shut down Monday after a similarly-caused avalanche in the Deer Creek Dam area. Later Friday evening, another avalanche occurred that forced a temporary closure of US-40 near Heber City. For updates: https://t.co/jaVMw7e9JmStay with fox13now.com and FOX 13 News for the latest on this breaking news story
