Democrats have scheduled a hearing about ethics standards for Supreme Court justices, after text messages revealed that Justice Clarence Thomas's wife contacted Trump officials to try and convince them to overturn the results of the 2020 elections.
on January 6, 2021, the day a mob of Trump loyalists attacked the U.S. Capitol building in order to disrupt the certification of the Electoral College votes. Thomas claims that she left the rally before the violence broke out, and that she didn’t take part in planning any of the day’s activities.
Members of the subcommittee calling for a closer examination of ethics rules for Supreme Court justices said that the couple’s actions warranted the review. “Threats or inquiries of impeachment as a means of regulating the conduct of Supreme Court justices have had varying effects,” the memo said., which is set to take place at 2 pm on Wednesday afternoon, Johnson noted that “unlike every other federal judge,” Supreme Court justices “are not subject to a code of ethics.
