February 18, 2023 - 18:23 GMT Hello Fashion It was a sombre occasion for the Greek royal family today as Princess Maria Olympia of Greece and her brother Prince Constantine-Alexios of Greece attended the Memorial Service of their grandfather King Constantine II of Greece.
The service which took place in the Metropolitan Cathedral of Athens on February 18, marked 40-days since the King’s death in January. The day concludes the traditional Greek 40-day memorial period and has a major significance in traditions of the Eastern Orthodox church. It is believed that the soul of the departed remains wandering on Earth during the 40-day period, coming back home, visiting places the departed has lived in as well as their fresh grave.
Her grandfather King Constantine’s first cousin was Prince Philip and he shared a close relationship with his second cousin King Charles, who even named Constantine as William's godfather. William himself would go on to be named godfather of Constantine's first grandson, Constantine Alexios.
