Parliament will, this week, meet for the first King’s Speech with Charles on the throne and Rishi Sunak as prime minister.
So should we be bracing ourselves for sweeping policy reforms from No 10? Given the time restraints of the parliamentary term, and the financial restraints of the economy, it is not expected to be a show-stopping event. But with more explosive revelations expected in the ongoing Covid inquiry, and an increasingly political row brewing over the country’s pro-Palestinian protests, the King’s Speech could be forgotten before it has even begun.
