President Biden publicly acknowledged his seventh grandchild on Friday — a 4-year-old girl, Navy, the daughter of his son Hunter and Lunden Roberts of Arkansas from a relationship in 2018.
In his 2021 memoir, the president’s son claimed his encounter with Roberts came while he was severely addicted to alcohol, cocaine and other drugs.
“I had no recollection of our encounter,” Hunter said in the book. “That’s how little connection I had with anyone. I was a mess, but a mess I’ve taken responsibility for.” A source close to the situation told People that President Biden and First Lady Jill Biden had refrained from speaking out about their granddaughter partly because of the contentious legal proceeding between Hunter Biden and Navy’s mother.
“They are — and have been — giving Hunter and Lunden the space and time to figure things out,” the source said. “At the center is a 4-year-old girl and everyone wants what is best for her, including all of her grandparents,” the source added.
