. However, the use of nearly all CVD therapies in women who are pregnant or lactating is informed by consensus opinion and observational data, rather than by high-quality randomized clinical trials .

. We call for a more thoughtful approach that considers the justification of exclusion criteria in clinical trial design, with the ultimate goal of generating better evidence to inform the care of pregnant and lactating women.
