Many households in Northern Ireland have seen their mental and physical health suffer due to the cost of living crisis

A third of households across Northern Ireland have been affected by high energy bills, it can be revealed.

Of the 32% of respondents to the LucidTalk survey who said high energy bills and the cost of living crisis had impacted their health, mental health impacts were most commonly reported. Other respondents said they or a member of their household had experienced impacts to their general physical health, a deterioration of an existing condition, or had required more visits to a GP or a hospital.

"I fear that if action isn’t taken ahead of the winter period, we could see many more households struggling with preventable health impacts. We know many households are going to find it difficult, and that in turn, will pile pressure onto our already stretched health and social care services. Peter McClenaghan, Director of Infrastructure and Sustainability at the Consumer Council, added: “The coming winter will be tough for many of us. When it comes to energy bills, we face costs effectively as high as last year.
