Just two months after a $1.08 billion ticket hit to win in California, the Powerball jackpot has ballooned back up to $672 million for Wednesday’s drawing.
If that sum is won, it would be the 10th-largest win in the lottery’s history. It would also be the third-highest winning sum in 2023, behind the billion-dollar ticket won on July 19 and a $754.6 million ticket won in Washington state on Feb. 6, PowerballThe jackpot for Monday’s drawing, which no one won, was $638 million. If a player hits the jackpot at 1 in 292,200,000 odds on Wednesday, they will have two choices in how to receive their winnings.
The lump sum cash option is up to $320.5 million. The other option, as always, is to receive an immediate smaller sum followed by 29 annual payments, each one increasing in value by 5% from the previous year’s payment. Powerball tickets are $2 per play, and are sold in 45 U.S. states, D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The lottery is not available in Nevada, Utah, Alabama, Alaska and Hawaii.
