‘Power Signal’ Filmmaker Oscar Boyson Confirms Feature Adaptation Of Enigmatic Delivery Worker Short Is In The Works — Sundance Studio

, having exec produced the first and produced the latter two. But the goal for the filmmaker, also currently prepping a feature called“We’re going to be announcing [further details] shortly,” said Boyson, who sees plenty of untapped story to mine within the world he’s set up. “At least to me,” he shared, “it’s hard for me to watch the short film without thinking it feels truncated.”

“It was hard to cram [the story] into 20 [minutes],” agreed Erin DeWitt, who edited the short and co-wrote the script with Boyson.per Boyson, as a work opening in documentary style before descending further and further into weirdness, follows a NYC delivery worker trying to navigate a city that won’t provide him a bathroom, who discovers an unearthly presence infecting women all over New York.

Boyson was joined at our studio on Monday by DeWitt, as well as two of the piece’s stars, Angela Sarafyan and Tennessee King, noting that the film shot last winter was inspired by the pandemic and the ubiquity of delivery workers out on the streets of New York City at the time. “The streets were so quiet during the pandemic except for these e-bike delivery workers.

While examining the loneliness of recent times and the looming threat of disease’s spread, the film is very much an exploration of a subculture that Boyson and DeWitt hadn’t previously seen given its due on screen. “I hadn’t seen a movie that gets into that [delivery worker] world…just the way that the guys, mostly guys, dress and decorate their bikes, the number of different languages and cultures,” said Boyson. “You’ve got Southeast Asian delivery workers, and a lot of Central American.

King found when she received the script that there was “a lot to sink your teeth into,” and it was she who sent the script over to Sarafyan, a friend from an acting class with whom she’d here get to collaborate for the first time. The latter observed that “sometimes you do a movie and it looks like a set, and it looks like, ‘Oh, okay, we’re making a movie.’ But this had exactly what it needed to tell the story it needed to tell.
