After Cathedral Catholic intentionally walked Titans cleanup hitter Sophia Burmeister, No. 5 hitter Alexis Huey came through with an RBI single in a 5-4 nonleague victory
Being the fifth hitter in the Poway High softball lineup means Alexis Huey is the protection for cleanup slugger Sophia Burmeister.
It was a nonleague matchup between Poway , the first-place team in the Palomar League, against Cathedral , the co-leader in the Western League. “We wanted to play a quality team this late in the regular season,” Poway coach Jim Bennet said. “It was a good win if it was March 15 or April 29.”“I was a little nervous going up to the plate,” Huey said. “I wanted to get a hit to prove that I belonged in that spot.Poway, which is now 7-0 at home this season, scored two runs in the first inning with Ryleigh Rinker, the hitting star with a 3-for-4 game and three RBIs, driving in both runs with a single.
Poway took a 3-2 lead on another Rinker single in the third inning only to have the Dons take a 4-3 lead on Sereniti Trice’s two-run single in the fourth inning.

U.S. District Judge Greg Guidry initially announced hours after the AP report that he would stay on the case, citing the opinion of fellow federal judges that no “reasonable person” could question his impartiality. “I have decided to recuse myself from this matter in order to avoid any possible appearance of personal bias or prejudice,” Guidry wrote.
