The Posen Village Board voted to allow golf carts within the 1.1 square mile of the village, said Mayor Frank Podbielniak.
The use of golf carts comes with rules similar to driving a car, Alexander said. Residents have to register their golf cart with the village and receive a permit, which will require an inspection of the golf cart. Only licensed and insured drivers can use golf carts in the village, he said.
“The main rule is: stay off the main roads unless crossing at an intersection,” Podbielniak said. “I think it’s going to go well.” Podbielniak said anyone driving a golf cart drunk will be pulled over and charged with driving under the influence. “We kind of mimicked their ordinance,” Alexander said. “Instead of getting in your car, you can get in your golf cart and go to the corner store. You can meet people you wouldn’t normally interact with because everyone goes about their day.”
“That was why we wanted to do it,” Alexander said. “It starts out talking about the golf cart ... and then it turns into ‘this tree is doing this’ or ‘this guy is doing that.’”
