The Porsche and Cadillac LMDh prototypes have been given weight breaks ahead of this weekend’s World Endurance Championship finale in Bahrain.

Their respective LMDh prototypes have had their minimum weights reduced by seven kilogrammes for the Bahrain 8 Hours on 4 November under the Hypercar class Balance of Performance. A change has been made to the so-called ‘platform BoP’, which means the move is an attempt to create a level playing field between the two manufacturers running LMDh machinery and the Le Mans Hypercars from Toyota, Ferrari and Peugeot.

The current 10 teams' feedback is considered irrelevant, as the FIA has the right on the sporting side. However, concerns have been raised about how the revenue would be split and the potential dilution of existing teams' share. Despite this, it is hoped that FOM will not refuse the opportunity, as it would be beneficial for business and the sustainability of motorsport.
