A new law makes theft of a delivered package a third-degree crime.
The measure was among dozens of bills that reached Murphy’s desk after being approved by the legislature in a flurry of activity on Jan. 10, just prior to the close of the last legislative session.The Defense Against Porch Pirates Act, formerly bill, amends New Jersey’s theft statute, making it a third-degree crime for stealing delivered packages with items of an undetermined value or those worth less than $75,000.
