Spurs coach Gregg Popovich wearing a VOTE T-shirt at the AT&T Center on Monday, Nov. 7, 2002, the day before Election Day.SAN ANTONIO – Spurs coach Gregg Popovich applauded the NBA’s efforts to increase voter turnout, including its decision not to schedule any games on Election Day.
Wearing a black long-sleeve T-shirt emblazoned with VOTE in white capital letters, Popovich made his comments while meeting with reporters before Monday’s game with Denver at the AT&T Center. The Spurs' efforts to increase voter turnout also included guard Josh Richardson addressing fans from center court just before the opening tip Monday.
All 30 NBA teams are in action Monday, but the league will be dormant Tuesday in an effort t promote the importance of voting.
