Today is the first PMQs since two big by-election wins for Labour - but Sir Keir Starmer is under fire for comments he made about Gaza and splits within his party over the crisis in the Middle East are emerging. Plus, a vote is expected on the suspension of former Tory MP Peter Bone.

Rishi Sunak is marking one year in Number 10 today, and he will face tough questions at PMQs about his record in government.

Currently, Labour sits on an average of 45.7%, compared with the Tories on 26.9% - a roughly 19-point lead. Mr Sunak needs inflation to fall to 5.3% in order to meet his target, and while this is not guaranteed, it appears within reach in the remaining months of the year.Mr Sunak could also be on course to meet this pledge, although growth has been weak.

But Mr Sunak may still be able to claim some success as the number of people waiting for very long periods has reduced over the past year. The wording of Mr Sunak's initial pledge on small boat crossings was not a promise to"stop the boats", but to pass new legislation"making sure that if you come to this country illegally, you are detained and swiftly removed".

One Labour backbencher told me the party's initial position - or at least communication of it - was"a disaster". A spokesperson for Sir Keir said:"Throughout this we've given the chance for Labour representatives from councillors to MPs talk to Keir, David and Lisa . The matter of the conflict in Israel and Gaza is likely to be mentioned, with immigration and the cost of living other possible topics for the opposition. It's been a year since Rishi Sunak took over from Liz Truss in Number 10. But following two by-election defeats last week, Downing Street doesn't seem to be in the mood for a party. The prime minister returned from Israel this week, where he met with leaders to discuss the war with Hamas and humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

The letter said:"Everyday we fail to call on the government and the international community to push for cessation of hostilities, Gazan children and hundreds of innocent men and women pay the price.
